Enable Unit for write-in product?

I'm trying to display the Unit field when a write-in product is chosen for an opportunity line. When you change a product to write-in product it hides the unit field. Also- when you do the add products quick create form - you can enter all lines BUT the unit field.

So what is the logic behind this - we have many different units and I'd like to tag the unit to the write in product for many different reasons. I could write a script to enable the field when the write in product is displayed - but wondering why unit is taken away in the first place or if there is an easier way to enable it?

    Hi,

The unit in "Write-in" product will disabled due to its a write-in product

Mainly the business here is to estimate your opportunity or quotes before go to "Order", and either you enabled the unit you will find the lookup field without any data

You can see this article from Joe D365 (who is an expert in this field):

The “Unit of Measurement” is associated with products that are defined in the product catalog. If you go for adding an existing product that is pre-defined in the product catalog in the quote/order etc. then the defined “Unit of Measurement”  by default get applicable as shown:

    Unit-of-Measurement.jpg

The write-in products are instantly created products which are not actually present in  product catalog. And hence for write-in products as they are write in (manually you are creating because it is not there in product Catlog) the concept of the “Unit of Measurement” not be applicable.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

When you select a product, it will automatically fill in the matching Unit and Price Per Unit for you, because it was created.

But if you choose Write-in product, it will be like you create a temporary record, it will not be saved in the product catalog. So, you do not need to specify Unit.

You can refer to this post:

If this helped you, I'd appreciate it if you'd mark this as a Verified Answer, which may in turn help others as well.

    Best Regards,
