Hi,

Is there a way of referencing an item to another item using the "where used" function without the part being used in a bom? Like accessories to an FG item.

Thanks

There is the supplementary item concept if that helps.

    Thanks for the response.

The more I research into this I believe the only way I can have an item associated to a part though the where used function without a bom is with a mod.

Yes that is true. I beleieve in all ERP systems I have worked with the "where used" is always component and BOM related as though it is a known moniker. Supplementary items make the links, but if you want associated items for incentivised selling it is not there (unless it is in Retail which I have never looked at)

I'm going to read up on supplementary items and see if this is a better approach to my issue. Thanks for the help

    Hi Justin,

This answer is intended if you are using AX2012 FP1 or higher.

You can also use the 'Linked Products' on the Retail tab of the released products. This is just a simple linking, normally used for selling these lined products together with the original product at the point of sale. If you are not using POS you can use this form. For cross reference there is also a 'where-linked products' form.

    kind regards,

This was a very useful question and answer :) Linked Products doesn't have the same functionality that's possible to trigger from a Purchase Order Line for example but gave me the solution my customer wanted to the common 'where used' query. many thanks
