Renting items by using standard inventory management

Hi,

I want to know if NAV 2013 can handle renting of inventory using standard functionality.

I have heard some suggestions of using Locations as a workaround.

Can someone please explain the process of using locations to rent out items.

Or if someone has another workaround to complete this process, it will be great help.

Thanks

Gurinderdeep C

    Hi Francis,

I have developed another solution to this but yours seems to be more intuitive. Can we get in touch ?

I did it once for a customer like this:

    2 location codes:

    - RENT-IN: The location where inventory is that is not currently rented

    - RENT-OUT: Rented items are transferred here. We made a bin, using the customernbr as a code. This way you can see which item is at which customer.

    - Every renting item has serial number tracking.

    - Invoicing the renting was done on return of the items. Just posting on a G/L Account for the number of days. The number of days can be tracked with the item ledger entries.

    - In a simple report, you can list up the inventory in RENT-OUT, linking the bin code to the customer table.

This is a good solution of there are not too much items to rent.

In another project, we did it with sales orders and sales return orders, and also with serial numbers for the items. In that case, the rental item was sold with the product, with price zero.

We made a report, comparable to combine shipment, to genereate periodic invoices for rent, based on the item ledger entries. It also allows you to make a 'rental items on customer sites' list.

    kr,

    Francis

    Hi

Have you looked at functionality in service management module? Not quite rental but close!
