System Administrator Duplicate

(0) ShareShare

Hello,

I am trying to make a duplicate of the System Administrator role in AX so I can take away rights to some parts of AX for this duplicate. My issue is that after making the duplicate I realized I cannot change its name, it gives me "Invalid Object Name" error doesn't matter what I try to change it to. The original SysAdmin role does seem like it's locked and no changes can be made to it but would the duplicate of the SysAdmin role be locked also? Is there any way to get around this and have a duplicate of SysAdmin that can have changes made to it? Thank you for all your help.

Thank you,

Mariam

    Hi Mariam,

The SysAdmin role is a special one. It has no duties and privileges. With the AOT name of this role it will bypass all security what will not be the case with a new or duplicated role.

Anyway you have to create a new role and grant duties and or privileges like any other role. Note that only the SysAdmin role has permissions to access the AOT. There is no duty or privilege which manages this.

Also some functionality on forms like Workflow history depends on role and privilege names. In that case you would need to change the forms as well or add the Information technology manager role as subrole.

Also XDS policies will become active.

PS. Invalid object name might be caused by invalid characters like the hyphen (-).

    Hi André,

Thank you very much for your help, this is the answer I was looking for. The reason I wanted to duplicate the SysAdmin role was to give certain users access to everything but the AOT, I will create a new role and give privileges one by one. Thanks again and have a great day.

    Best,

    Mariam

    Hi Mariam,

There may exist some entry points which do not belong to any privilege or role. That happens mostly if there are some custom changes in standard AX. That may happen on tables too (case of SSRS reports).

    Best regards

    @Rati,

If there are custom changes where there is no security managed, then the customization is not complete.

If there are e.g. custom duties added to an existing or new role, then this should be OK. Also the custom roles can be added as subrole on the new Admin role.
