How have people handled UK address formats in AX2012

Currently the format enforces a link between state and county which in the UK is not required. Even if you remove the state field from the address format it still insists on the link.

Is there a way of removing this level of enforcement through configuration or must it be customized?

We have gone with the following. Quite a bit of flexibility in this area in terms of setup though. Deciding what to have as the counties is a bit tricky with boundry changes but we wanted to get some consistency in naming which is why we went for a structured entry list for them. Had to list places like London, Manchester, Glasgow etc as counties.

State GBR needs to be entered but is set as data entry only to not show as part of address. An alternative we considered was to have states of ENG,SCO,WALES etc with related counties set against them but we decided not to go with that.

That's similar to what we've tested and concluded but we've had feedback from users on the annoyance of having to insert the state each time (not unreasonably) and were hoping for a non-customised configuration that would allow us to default the state or hide it totally...

Remove the "County" from the Address format and keep "State or province" to use for storing the County details, then the only validation is from the Country and no need to enter an additional field with no purpose.
