Assigning resources to a job

Hello experts

In Business Central (v14) is there a way to assign rates to a "job" and not just individual resources - something like a Job rate card.

For example there is a team working on the job - Employee A $100 p/h, Employee B $80 p/hr, Employee C $50 per hour.

They all work on all the tasks.

Is there a way to assign high level rates to the job

Right now I want to avoid assigning one resource to each planning line, copying the planning line, assigning the next resource etc etc

All team members work on all tasks and all planning lines.

Any suggestions anyone??

Thank you so much,

Alison

RE: Assigning resources to a job

    Hello Alison,

Thank you for posting your question on the Forum.

It would definitely be a nice feature to be able to budget at a Resource Member group. However, individual Resources are the only option available at this time.  It may be something to suggest on the Ideas site.

    https://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/categories/?forum=e288ef32-82ed-e611-8101-5065f38b21f1&forumName=Dynamics%20365%20Business%20Central

A possible option would be to setup the Budget with a generic Resource with possibly an Average of the Rates for budget purposes as an estimate.  When actual labor time is recorded and depending upon how billing will be managed, the Line Type of Billing can be used in the Job Journal by the actual Resource working on the Task to determine the Billable Rate for the hours billed on the Job. This of course would work well in a variable rate Job scenario. If it is a fixed billed or installment type of Job, where multiple G/L Accounts lines are used for the Billing Job Planning lines to schedule out the billing of the Job, then you would not enter a Line Type of Billable on the Job Journal line for the Resource labor recorded.  You would post the Resource used against the Job Task completed. The key is that the actual Resource labor cost from the Resource Card will be recorded as Job Usage based on the specific Resource used on the Job Journal and posted for the labor, so when the Calculate Job WIP process is run, the system will push the actual Resource labor cost through Job WIP and to the Job Recognition as the rate of the specific Resource that completed the work.

Keep in mind that you do have flexibility to setup specific Resource Pricing on the Job Card, as well.

There may be Add-on/Extensions that provide more flexibility with Resources and linking like Resources for budget purposes. It is always good to research options from ISV Solutions.

I hope this helps move you forward with some ideas.

    Best Regards

    Tom
