Picking list is a handoff stage from sales to warehouse operations. Picking is NOT a required step and can be skipped entirelly if not required by the item model group.

However posting a picking list will require you to complete the procedure before a packing slip can be posted.

When you post Picking list you create output order lines. These will have to be completed. You complete them by performing a picking list registration. You can access the output lines from your sales lines. The cool thing with output orders are that you can do consolidated picking...

If you don't post a picking list you can post packing slip directly.

Problem is that in AX 2012 you will have to post the picking list to be able to print it as the document use Output orders as base for the data set...

    Hi Seenu,

you can only skip picking process if the item model group for that item has picking requirements unchecked making it a non mandatory process.

For serial numbers you need do decide whether you want a manual registration or an automated process based on that there are different approach.

I would have to search for the blog post, and I'm probably not better at that then anybody else. If you can't find it, then I probably can't either. :)

When using serial number tracking it is important to add these before you post. Automatic serial number in a picking scenario is almost useless, so you actually have to identify each serial number.

If you have a line with only one quantity it is simple to add the SN on the sales order line directly.

If you have a line with multiple quantities you would have to add each of these as individual registrations.

You can register serial numbers either directly on the sales order by going to the "Pick" menu item in the sales line action menu "Update Line". In the top of the form you can select a principle to add lines and be able to scan the serial numbers one by one.

Another way is off cause on the picking list registration forms. It should split your lines after the serial number quantities. Click "Inventory" and "Dimension Display" and activate the Serial Number in the form to be able to enter it.

Consolidated picking is another beast in it self. Are you looking to do this or picking order by order?

    Hi All,

the reference documentation for outbound (sales) processes in D365FO is here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/supply-chain/inventory/outbound-process

I think everything else is covered in the thread already.

    Cheers
