Does anyone know the best way to archive historical data? For example in the UK there is a requirement to archive data after 7 years.

I cant see any tools or ISVs that do this

It's archived in the system for the lifetime of the system. Additionally you can print all financial and ledger statements that you need as PDF and use any document management solution to archive them.

If you want to store the entire database for archiving, you can export the prod database using the export functionality in Lifecycle Services, and store this backup with the solution of your choice.

So, it's possible with the out of the box functionalities. But actual archiving of exported files is not an ERP feature, for that you need your own solution. File system, Sharepoint, whatever suits you.

I saw update somewhere that Microsoft is working in archival tool for F&O but again nothing is confirmed. There used to be tool for 2012. So you have to look for your solution for that.

Hi Carl,

Is the requirement such that you have to retain data in system for 7 year and after that you can archive OR you have to archive data after 7 years, you can't keep it in the system. Seem like it's first one.

I don't see version on your questions.. so for 2012, follow link below:

We ran into issues using AX2012 archival in its initial stage so there is going to be lot of evaluation on your side if you want to use this tool prior to upgrade.

For F&O - nothing yet but it will come out in the future. If you are in cloud version, you are limited anyway until MS comes out with something. I don't think you have used D365 for 7 years yet and may have data related to upgrade. If you have performance related issues, try focusing on those rather than archival strategy for now.
