New search format in views requires quoting of special characters?

A recent update has changed the format of views - for example, the All Accounts view now has a search box above it with the words "Try to search in your own words" and what looks like the Copilot icon at the end of it.

If there's an account with the name A & T Garden Center and a user types A & T into the search box, they get:

"Something went wrong while executing your query."

They have to type "A & T" with double quotes around it now to find it. They didn't have to do that before. Any workaround for this? These aren't all computer savvy people who can tell when they need quotes for special characters vs. not.
