Creating a large number of inventory "Site"s in Dynamics 365

We would like to create 80+ inventory sites and link a financial dimension value to each so that we can assess profitability at the site level under a single legal entity.  Question, has this been done, and what is the downside to configuring D365 in this way.

I have the same question (0)

    HI KC one,

Are these 80+ sites all belonging to a single legal entity? In fact, Dynamics 365 can handle this number as there will be more variations when you are using batch numbers or serial numbers. There is no option to default a dimension value based on the site in the standard application.

    Hi KC,

You can try to configure the parameter in inventory value report to find the total value at site level.

By the way, system doesnot supply the site value in financial dimension by default, you need to configure it manually.

Create a custom financial dimension and assign values of sites

Then use dimension link in cost management to link the financial dimension with inventory site

Hi Andre,  Yes all belonging to a single legal entity.   Would like to use the Site 'dimension link' to attach one financial dimension for all sites, and then assign the appropriate dimension value to each 'Site'.   Seems this would be the most logical way to assess profitability at each site without creating different legal entities for each of them to report on profitability.

As mentioned above, it requires configuration and/or customizations. You can create the site as financial dimension using the next documentation. docs.microsoft.com/.../dimensionable-entities

Then ensure the value will be defaulted on orders with priority which changes the current standard logic of getting default dimensions from customers, then the order header.

    Hi

Please have a look this post, it is about AX but it also applies to D365FO: timsaxblog.wordpress.com/.../link-inventory-site-to-a-financial-dimension-in-ax-2012

The obvious downside is that Site is always financial relevant, so you will not be able to apply stock valuation across sites, no matter if you use FIFO or average.
