Hi ,

I am trying to connect to my UAT DB from power BI , but its throwing below error :-

"Microsoft SQL: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"

Please suggest.

You can not connect directly to sql DB  in UAT from power bi not in prod.  Use BYOD instead for your reporting purpose.

Already suggested one option for you which is BYOD another option is entity store with azure data lake.

More details check on below link

    docs.microsoft.com/.../export-entities-to-your-own-database

You can also look at data lake option described in the link below. I am not aware if the below option is release  yet.

    Hi,

As mentioned by Sukrut, There are 2 possibilities. If you want to use aggregated data then you can use entity store on Azure data lake.

If you want to report on transactional data then you will have to export the data to BYODW and create Power BI reports based on those.

You can use Azure Data Lake instead of BYODW once it is GA around March 2021 but till that time you need to go with BYODW(Azure SQL server).

Please go through the links shared by Sukrut and let us know if you need any help.

    Hello Rohin,

What is the reason for connecting to UAT DB from Power BI ? Are you planning to create and deploy your own PowerBI Embedded reports?

If you would like to use your DEV environment for deploying PowerBI embedded reports then you need to use AzureDB as AXDW.

Otherwise, you can still use (.) server and AxDw (data warehouse) for connecting to your DEV box from PowerBI desktop. Downside of this approach is that you will not be able to deploy reports to FNO and test them. But, you could deploy the .pbix file from LCS to your UAT and test the reports.
