Customer Owned Inventory

I have inventory entered in the system that is customer owned.  I can get it into the system and take it out just fine.  I use Item Arrival in and a Sales Order out.  But I need to tag the specific inventory for that customer.  Is there a better way to do it than to steal one of the inventory dimensions and use it? (like Pallet)

How about a new "Warehouse" for this specific customer.

You can receive the product in to that new warehouse and sell out of that new warehouse.

At any time, you will be able to find out, what products exist in that warehouse and the details of the transactions.

Good thought.  We are already using warehouse for the actual warehouse its in.  I suppose I could create a warehouse-customer but I think that'll mean reworking all the reporting that shows actual warehouse inventory.  We are using Warehouse, site and color right now.

In AX 2012 I've seen a inventory tracking dimension called "Owner" which is a part of the russian functionality. Don't know what it is used for, but it could work this way.

This will however probably be solved by using special License plates in the new advanced Warehouse management features Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3.

It seems logical to me to assign the customer owned items to a separate item group and/or model group, which ideally not only acts to identify those parts but also isolate or even avoid their ledger effects (which can also be done at $0 cost also in most cases).  This way you can also continue to use the proper warehouse that reflects its actual storage location and makes managing those parts in production a lot easier.

I agree with BRANDON WIESE .

Did you end up trying this, Brian-T? I'd like to use the Owner dimension for the same purpose.
