How do you handle more than 1 worker in same position during handover/transition?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

It's very common to have an existing worker and their replacement overlap during a transition/handover,  usually a few days or weeks. Talent won't allow you to assign more than one worker to the same position where dates overlap - it errors. Am I missing something or is there a way to override this rule?

    I haven't heard any updates on this either, this is a common issue being faced by every organization that has Dynamics HR and all my clients criticize this standard miss.

    Just wondered if there is an update on this or this has been on roadmap for an awfully long time.

    There is a real need for this functionality...

    Thanks Tom for clearing this up. We ended up implementing the work-around you've outlined as a two step process.

    1. Hire into an open temporary position reporting to the same manager;

    2. Create a future worker assignment into current employee position when vacated.

    Hi Fred - late reply, sorry - and you're not missing anything. I believe there is a roadmap item to address this but for now you need to create a duplicate position for the replacement worker.
