Difference between modifiedfield and modifiedfieldvalue table method?

hi I m new to dynamics and was going through table method but couldn't find any relevant articles explaining difference between modifiedfield and modifieldvalue and when to use them.Modifiedfield I know but can someone explain modifiedfieldvalue and when to use these two methods..

    Logically there is no difference, then again why create two method if both serve same purpose.Although both will trigger or called when field value is change there is separation in a manner they are executed.

    1:modified method will only execute if validation return true.

    2:In batch process modified-field-value does not execute.

    3:Modified-field-value is client based method so it will return 2 more calls.
