Hi,

The new feature management, it seems similar to the configuration key, in what scenarios we should use this feature management?

Thanks,

I have the same question (0)

Could you elaborate what you mean by "we"? Are you asking from perspective of end customer, partner, ISV? Are you developing something and are thinking if you should utilize feature management or config keys?

    Hi Yuji,

Configuration keys concept has been there in AX for very long and typically used to enable/disable functionality.

With One version, to avoid surprises to users and changing their user interface on monthly basis with platform updates, MS introduced features management. Most of the new functionality is now coming under feature management. One of the recent exception is Revenue recognition module (managed via Configuration keys as MS did lot of work and this functionality was worked on prior to Feature management planning.

If you are working with ISV and want to control functionality, configuration keys is the approach to use.

Feature management  provides you a view for a list of features delivered in every release. Those  features are already part of application  but those are enabled or disabled through this work space.  Feature management is currently unavailable for features from ISVs and custom features. Microsoft is making enhancements so that it can be used to handle your custom features as well.

Currently the way it works is, when you enable all features  a batch job is scheduled (FeatureManagementEnableScheduledFeature) which does enabling and disabling those features from FeatureManagementState and FeatureManagementMetadata table.
