Hi !

One of my financial user wished to select a fixed asset that is closed to sale it. When selecting it through the proposal form, the FA Id is not transferred into the journal. Conversely, when he fill the FA Id manually in the journal line, he can post the line without any other issue. Have to knowledge for a setup or a strange behaviour from AX2012 R2 ?

Thanks for help !

    Hi HHOST,

When the fixed asset was selected manually, have you been able to post the journal with an amount or did AX Interrupt the posting?

A second question; with closed you refer to the status of the value model, right?

    Hi Hhost,

Which proposal form are you referring to? What type of (Asset)journal did you use in this case?

    Hi André and Ludwig,

    Thanks for your help.

Yes by manually selecting the FA, I am able to post the journal with an amount. 'Closed' is indeed the status of the value model. We use a journal with following setups : account type = ledger, posting layer = current. We tried with the proposal form titled 'disposal -scrap' : the 'closed' FA appears there, but when selected, they are not reported to the 'LedgerJournalTransAsset' form.

Let me know if you need more precisions.

    Kindly regards,

    Hélène HOST

    Hello Helene HOST,

You posted the scrap transaction for the asset, is that right?

You can post a screenprint of the voucher that has been generated and the transaction origin form?

I just tried to do the same and AX generated all corresponding transactions in the different ledger modules.

Another question in this context, do you expect that AX shall not be able to scrap the asset if the status closed is selected? Did I get that right?

Here are some precisions and screenshot to better show you my issue.

Here is my journal FAS01 setup :

    Capture104.JPG

Now in FA module, I create a new journal and in line, I click on Proposals > Disposal - scrap. Let say I want to dispose from FA*7, whose asset is closed. I fill the research tool :

    Capture101.JPG

AX doesn't want to considerate my choice  :

    Capture102.JPG

Otherwise, if I don't use proposal, and fill directly in the line field :

    Capture104.JPG

I can post the journal without any issue !!!

    Strange, isn't it ?

    Hello HHOST,

I do not think that there is something wrong or strange in the way how AX behaves here.

That is because 'closed' only means that a fixed asset has a net book value of 0$.

Please see the definitions here: technet.microsoft.com/.../aa590830.aspx

As a fixed asset with a 0$ net book value can still be used, I do not find something strange in the fact that it can be scrapped.

Given that the asset is fully depreciated, scrapping it should not affect your income statement. That is, the overall voucher recorded should not result in a profit or loss but only affect your company's Balance Sheet. Otherwise, this would be something that looks strange. Can you check whether the scrap posting had an overall effect on your income statement and generated a profit or a loss? If this is not the case I would say that everything is ok.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

I totally agree with you about the definition of 'closed'. What is strange to me is the fact that I can select my FA through the proposal form but AX refuse to take this selection into account. I have to fill it into the journal line. I encounter this behavior only with FA that have the 'closed' status.

    Best regards,

    Hélène

    Hi Helene,

That is because how the proposal functions are coded.

If you take for example the 'Proposal - disposal-scrap' functionaltiy and take a look at the AssetDisposalScrap class, you will notice that it won't select 'closed' fixed assets (please check the 'new method' in the class)

That's why you cannot get them proposed but rather need to enter them manually.

Though a code modification might get you around this standard behaviour...

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hello Ludwig,

Thanks a lot, I wasn't looking at the good class. I understand now how this selection is made, and why only 'Open' are selected.

    Your help is precious.

    Hi

May I comment that the status Closed means more than just zero value.

Eg. you're not supposed to be able to acquire on a closed asset through purchase order. For this a hotfix resolution is made by MS within the last year.
