Recording the opportunity stage

Hello,

I am using opportunities and want to have a field which shows on the opportunity the duration an opportunity remained in a particular stage.

For example the first opportunity stage is ‘interact’, the second opportunity stage is ‘2nd progress’. At the point the user clicks on ‘Next Stage’ and moves the opportunity from ‘INTERACT’ to the ‘2nd PROGRESS’ stage I want a static duration field on the opportunity which shows how long it took (a count in days) to move from one stage to the other. I have a total of six different stages and for each stage I want a field on the opportunity record which shows the stage name and the duration, so a history of all the stages and the durations.

I have seen an article around creating another entity but the steps are not clearly outlined and a lot of it is down to guess work. Any direction you can give would be good.

Note I am NOT using the standard out of the box ‘opportunity sales process’

Thank you
Ladga

The links others have posted are the old way of doing it. Now each BPF including custom ones automatically create an entity for that BPF which you can use in workflows, you can capture the time the active stage started on and ended on and there is also a duration calculated field that captures how long the process flow was active, and you can capture data based on entry or exit of a stage, hope that helps.
