When creating a production picking list manually, expired batches are blocked with a warning. When picking on the mobile, there is no warning and the journal posts the consumption of an expired batch.

You do get warning on the mobile device to pick oldest batch if you have done the setup for the same but not saying that this batch is expired.
Check your mobile device menu item and make sure "pick oldest batch" has warn set as an value.
It will warn in the mobile device to pick oldest expired batch as I tried for sales. Its same for raw material picking.
if you want to stop the picking of expired batches than make sure they are blocked manually in rich client and mobile device does not warn in this regard that batch is expired.
