Dynamics GP Font Truncated on Windows 10 Laptops

Good afternoon,

We recently migrated to new laptops and have an issue with the display in GP Note window.  The font in the Note window does not display fully.  Please see below example (for ‘sa’ user).

wwwww.jpg

The laptop, OS, and GP versions are listed below.

Dell laptop: Latitude 5520 (x64-based PC)

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro: 10.0.19042

Microsoft Dynamics GP: 18.3.1200

We had tried the tips in the link from Microsoft:

Display and font issues working with Microsoft Dynamics GP - Microsoft Dynamics GP Community

These tips did not resolve our display issue.

We tried modifying the Note Form by changing the font to Courier 10, the font does not truncate at the top as it does with the default font.

Have you experienced similar issue with Dynamics GP font display on Windows 10 laptop?  Do you have a solution, patch, or hotfix for this issue?

Thank you for your help!

    Hi Beat,

You are correct, the "Windows 8 compatibility" seems to be not needed.

Thank you for your continued efforts in sharing your knowledge!

    Glad you resolved your problem.

The "Windows 8 compatibility" shouldn't be required, but it's likely the settings for High DPI scaling that made the difference.. this is an issue that is frequently seen in all displays over regular FHD (i.e. 1080 pixels in vertical res.) and when the display DPI is above the typical 76-81 dpi, depending on the physical screen size.

Changing the Compatibility mode to Windows 8, and the “High DPI scaling override” to "System (Enhanced)", is the combination that fixed our problem. The Fonts in Note window are no longer truncated, and the font size in general is a little bigger on all screens.  The fonts and icons are not as sharp as before, but this might be a tradeoff that we have to accept.  We had tried "Application" and " System", but not "System (Enhanced)" before we posted the question on this forum.

If I am seeing what you are seeing (that the window font is fine but the actual text of the note is displayed in a different font), I think there may be something with the actual data stored in the note table.

If you type in a new note into a GP 18.3 field-level note, does it have the same display problem?  Does the note display the same way on both the SQL Server (presumably a non-laptop) and the new laptops?

I have seen issues in the past when clients were pasting notes from another source - for example, a bulleted list from an Outlook or Word document - that resulted in some display/reporting issues, resolved by cleaning up the SY03900..TXTFIELD data.

    I can't duplicate this either, on Dynamics GP 18.3 on a Windows 10 machine / Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19041

We also haven't seen any case volume to suggest this as an issue either, at least as of yet.

Along with the blog you mentioned, we've seen a case or two where having high resolution monitors and/or laptops can cause display issues with Dynamics GP, not specifically this issue, but issues.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Looking at the font that is currently displayed in your Note window, it seems that this is not the default font used by GP..

How did you setup the GP client on this workstation? Can you run a repair of it ? GP normally installs some fonts for internal display use, and those might not be present right now.

Have a look at this blog post too:
