After Live to staging DB restore application throws errors

Hi, this feels a bit of a long shot but about 6 months ago the co-worker that looked after our Dynamics AX 4 (yes 4!) applcaition left and it has since dropped onto my sysadmin lap despite a serious lack of dynamics knowledge to support it.....anyway onto the problem...

I recenetly restored our Live DB backup to our Dev environment using the SQL restore replace data method and all went swimmingly, however today resotring the latest live backup to our staging environment has not been succesful. Open opening forms in the AX client after the restore it now throws sql errors for example "Invalid column name'xyz'" A collegue of mine suggested running a data dictioanry synchronise. We tried this but that starts to throw warnings such as "One or more tables will soon be deleted from the SQL database. This is usally caused by changes in the Microsfot Dynamics data dictionary.......". When I check those tables on the sql DB they are there so this doesn't seem to be a restore issue. If we proceed and delete the tables the errors in the client dissapear but the tables are obvsiosuly wiped. Now whilst I could backup and restore the tables I don't want to do this as there will be a future requirement to restore this database and I don't want this to become part of the process. From reading online I have seen different errors but maybe related talking abot AOT table ID's going out of sync and causing the issues.

I guess my questions are is so why would this happen, and secondly how does one go about fixing it?? Any advice or guidance would be appricated...

If it helps we have sperate AOS instances for each of our environments.

Thanks

EGB

    Hi egb,

Maybe the Dev environment is pretty old. The Live environment has a few tables (in the AX application) that the Dev environment doesn't have. This is the reason when you synchronize, you get these tables/columns wiped out.

Do you have some development done on the Dev server that are not present in the Live environment? If not, I would suggest you do a complete refresh of the Dev environment from the Live environment. This way, you wouldn't be facing these issues.

Since this is AX 4.0, I could only find an old link which provide the steps to refresh both database and application. In your case, you have already refreshed the DB. Please try refreshing the application as well and check if that resolves the issue.
