Master data sync customer, contacts and contact business relation

Hi guys!

At a customer of mine, we use the default master data synchronisation functionality from Business Central.
For most things we sync, this works quite well.

But for syncing the customers, their contacts and contact business relations, we quite often have issues.

The setup in Master Data company is the following:

Customer gets created and because we filled in the field 'business relation code for customers' in the marketing setup, a contact op the type company will automatically be created for that customer.
The contacts of type person are also created in the master data company.

In the slave entities, we left the field 'business relation code for customers' in the marketing setup blank, so it won't try to create a contact there also of the type company.

Now we get issues for when the contacts are synced before there are customers.

These job queues for syncing run in the background automatically.

Now the issue is that there is no real possibility to define the order in which you want to sync these tables.
I tried the priorities on job queue, but this didn't seem to solve anything.

Now we frequently receive the sync error message :

"Contact R073169 BOEUF GRILL RESTO BV is not linked to customer C040187 BV BOEUF GRILL RESTO."

This is the result when the contacts of type person are synced before the contact business relation.

Therefor I am perhaps looking for a solution to define an order for these syncs.

  1. Sync my customer cards
  2. Sync my Contact business relations (Maybe only validation on customer no., because contact doesn't exist yet)
  3. Sync my contacts of type person and company

I would assume that when I can arrange the sync to do it in this order, I won't receive this error message again.

Now is my question, do you guys have any solution for this?

An idea or already implemented for a customer? Because surely I don't have the first customer who needs this.
I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

Syncing customers, contacts, and contact business relations via master data synchronization can lead to errors when contacts are synced before their related customers, especially due to the lack of sync order control in job queues.

A reliable workaround involves customizing the sync process to enforce a specific order
    • first syncing customer cards, then contact business relations (with minimal validation),
    • followed by contacts of type person and company.
This can be achieved through custom job queue management, AL extensions, or monitoring scripts that delay or retry syncs based on dependencies, ensuring smoother and error-free synchronization.

    Hello,

This is a known limitation in Business Central’s default master data synchronization, as the system doesn’t allow controlling the exact sync order of related tables like customers, contact business relations, and contacts. To avoid sync errors like contacts syncing before their linked customers exist, a common solution is to create custom job queue entries or modify the synchronization process to enforce the desired sequence for example, triggering customer sync first, then contact business relations, then contacts. Alternatively, some partners implement custom sync logic or extensions to handle dependencies and retries, ensuring related records are created in the correct order and preventing these errors.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Hi, good day
I hope this can help you, and give you some hints. Or divide the synchronization into controlled phases, or some particular development.
