Error installing NAV2017 in Workgroup

Hi

I am trying to install NAV2017 on my Windows 10 computer for testing. I am putting all modules on the same computer. I have tried both the Demo setup and developer setup.

All goes fine until the setup is adding the language module. I seems like it tries to connect to the NAV service. The service has not started and the installation will roll back.

I have tried changing the account used for the service, but any account will raise an error message saying that the account does not have permissions to start or run services.

Trying the same procedure on a computer which is member of a Domain, it will install fine.

Part of the log file:

Action ended 11:20:19: PublishProduct. Return value 1.
Action start 11:20:19: InstallFinalize.

    Hi again

It seems that the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server is installing, but will not start and this causes the rollback.

For a short period the service will exist in my service list before the installation i rolled back.

If I try to start Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server from the service list there it will fail to start due to error in a dependent service: http service.

Any hints on how to solve the problem

I tried the links below, but it did not solve my problems.

I've tried to install on three different computers having WIndows 10 anniversery and running in a workgroup in common, all failed with the same "failed to start service" error. Maybe a domain account is required in this OS setup?

Might be issues of the time zone: saurav-nav.blogspot.co.at/.../error-after-installation-of-microsoft.html

This might also be helpful: forum.mibuso.com/.../nav-2013-installation-error

Also, for troubleshooting purposes, try installing a pure W1 version, would you face the same issue?

Thanks all for your help, but it does not solve the problem:

    * Installing the W1 version will give the same errors.

    * Changing time zone does not give any result

The most hopeful has other issues:

    * In the setup when I try to change my service account to another account which is not Network Service, the setup wizard will not allow another account. For example choosing the computer's Administrator account or my own login will show me a pop up saying (translated from Swedish): "The Windows account chosen does not have the privileges to run services on this computer..." then the install will not continue. I also tried to add a new account in the group administrators, but the same result.

I finally managed to install all components by choosing the same account for the NAV service tier as the SQL server is running with. Alternatively one may try to supply the default service account for the NAV service tier (Network Service) with sysadmin privileges for the SQL server.

I am having the same issues, can you explain your solution a bit more?

As is commonly recommended, one should use a distinct domain user account for running the NAV middle tier service (NST) - see msdn.microsoft.com/.../provisioning-the-microsoft-dynamics-nav-server-account , e. g. Just try to give this domain account sysadmin privileges (at least during installation of NAV) within the SQL server. This should work, too, of course you should try a local Windows account, if your computer is not member of a domain. In my concrete installation (Windows 10 Enterprise, not member of a domain, Demo installation NAV 2017 on notebook), I used the standard SQL server service account for the NST:
