Single Fixed Asset for multiple same Object

Dear Sir,

During Fixed Asset Implementation process, my client wants to maintain a Single Fixed Asset Card(FA) for multiple but same kind of equipment. Suppose they have bought a Fixed Asset ( Quantity 4 of similar kind of Computer), they want to maintain a single FA for that. And the same FA(Computer) will be disposed if they will sale out all the 4 Quantity.

How this will be configured with or without customization in NAV 2016 Database ?

Kindly reply .

Regards,

Subrata Bauri

    Subrata

I see with the questions and responses within this thread that you should now fully understand the FA mechanism within NAV. That being said, the best practice is still to have a one to one relationship between the item and the FA. You should have 4 FA. One for each item.

    Hello Subrata,

    Yes It is possible.

At First you need to create new FA Card, and through Reclassification journal you have to split that one unit's Acquisition and depreciation From Old FA Card to new FA Card

After Posting Reclassification Journal old FA card will contain 3 unit's value and new FA card will contain one unit's Value then you can post sales for new FA card and that will get dispose but old FA Card who contain 3 Unit's Value that will not dispose.

    Hope its clear

    Best Regards,

RE: Single Fixed Asset for multiple same Object

Suppose I had bought 4 PCS Laptops of same configuration and created a single Fixed Asset(FA0001) for it on dated 1 January 2018.

On dated 1 February 2019, I have notice that one of them creating problem during works. So I have decided to sale this 1 PCS Laptop [Fixed Asset (FA0001)] but do not want to dispose the Fixed Asset FA0001.

Note : The Fixed Asset (FA0001) will be disposed when the last one will be sale out.

How it can be possible in the NAV 2016 database ?

Create new asset -> split the asset by reclassifying -> dispose old asset

    Example :

if you are selling only one quantity of FA01 (4 x computer), do the following :

    1) Create a new asset FA02 with "3 x computer" on the description

    2) Use FA Reclass. Journals to transfer 75% of acquisition and depreciation to FA02

    3) Dispose FA01

    Dear Subrata,

In that case you have to create new FA Card and split the cost and depreciation of the one computer into new fa card through FA Reclassification Journal. Then you can post the sale for new FA Card.

    Hope it works.

The idea is that all 4 units are considered as one on the FA. If you choose to sell one of the units, you must reduce the book value of the FA. Since this is being done outside of the GL, then you would use the FA Journal to reduce the book value. Once you are ready to sell or write-off the remaining units, then you can use the FA Journal for Disposal.

Using that setup, you will sell all 4 unit at once.

Thanks for your instant reply. I would like to know what will happen (FA DISPOSAL ?) if I sale 1 unit computer from the system.

Since you are creating one FA for 4 units, I would go straight to create one FA card. Follow the normal setup. Then I would go to the FA Journal to add value to the FA. Remember, only the FA Journal. Not the FA G/L Journal. Run your depreciation as normal.
