Missing Process button on the Lead record (command bar)

Hi,

I am confused by the missing Process button on the command bar of the Lead record. This occurs in both the Customer Insights and Sales Enterprise apps.

I have the System Administrator security role, and there are three active Business Process Flows (BPFs), all of which are added to both apps. However, it is not possible to switch between processes due to the absence of the Process button.

I used the Command Checker, and the Process button does not exist at all — it’s not just hidden; the button is completely missing.

Any help, tip, or workaround would be greatly appreciated!

Couple clarifying questions for people to assist.
    • Can you confirm that the Business Process flows begin on the Lead table, and not on something like Opportunity or another table?
    • Is it working in other apps?

Missing Process button on the Lead record (command bar)
    Hello nessus,

That's quite puzzling, especially with the System Administrator role, active BPFs, and the Command Checker showing no trace of the "Process" button. Let's troubleshoot this systematically.

Here are the most likely reasons why the "Process" button might be missing from the Lead record's command bar in both Customer Insights - Journeys and Sales Enterprise apps, along with steps to investigate:

    1. App-Specific Configuration:

While the BPFs are added to both apps, the command bar configuration itself can be different for each app.

    • Check the Command Bar Customization for Each App:

      1. Go to https://make.powerapps.com/.

      2. Select Apps.

      3. Open the Customer Insights - Journeys app by clicking the ... and then Edit.

      4. In the App Designer, navigate to Tables.

      5. Select the Lead table.

      6. Click on the ... next to the Lead table and select Edit command bar.

      7. Look for any customizations or missing "Process" button here. Ensure the "Modern command bar" is enabled (it usually is for Unified Interface apps).

      8. Repeat steps 3-7 for the Sales Enterprise app.

It's possible that the command bar for the Lead entity was customized within one or both of these apps, and the "Process" button was inadvertently removed or not added.

    •

    2. Unexpected Layering or Unmanaged Customizations:

If you have multiple layers of customizations (especially unmanaged solutions), one layer might be hiding or removing the "Process" button.

    • Check Solution Layers:

      1. Go to Settings > Customizations > Customize the System.

      2. Expand Entities and select the Lead entity.

      3. Click on Command bar.

      4. Click Show solution layers on the command bar editor.

      5. Review the layers to see if any unmanaged customizations might be affecting the visibility of the "Process" button. If you find an unmanaged layer removing it, consider removing that customization or managing it properly in a solution.

      6.

    3. Potential Product Bug or Temporary Issue:

Although less likely for a fundamental button like "Process," there's a small chance of a temporary product bug.

    • Check Microsoft Known Issues: Search the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Known Issues documentation to see if there are any recent reports of missing command bar buttons.

    •

    Workarounds and Further Investigation:

    • Try a Different Browser/InPrivate Mode: Rule out any browser-specific caching or extension issues.

    • Verify BPF Association: Open a Lead record. Even without the "Process" button, the active BPF should ideally be visible at the top of the form. If no BPF is visible, there might be an issue with how the BPFs are associated with the Lead entity or the app context.

    • Create a New Test App: Create a brand new, minimal model-driven app and add the Lead entity to it. See if the "Process" button appears in this new app. This can help determine if the issue is specific to the Customer Insights - Journeys and Sales Enterprise apps.

    •

Since the Command Checker shows the button doesn't exist at all, the most likely scenario is a customization at the app level or a layering issue that has removed it.

Please try checking the command bar customization within the App Designer for both the Customer Insights - Journeys and Sales Enterprise apps. Let me know what you find there, and we can proceed with further troubleshooting.

@Tom_Gioielli I can confirm that BPF starts on the Lead table and ends on Opportunity. The Process button is missing also in Sales and Customer Insights.

I found a workaround. Even though I tried adding the existing Process command to the command bar in my solution, it didn’t work.

What I did instead was create a new Process command based on the Opportunity button (added in both apps separately). However, this new command is scoped to the app, not the table.

After adding the new command to the main form of the Lead table and deploying the solution across all environments, the button is now available in both apps.
