Fixed Asset module: Categorize asset / split up asset

Hello.

I'm facing a problem in Fixed Asset module - here is an example of my situations:

I own an apartment block with 10 apartments. I bought this block in a whole, but I want to determine each apartment in the block. The apartments are not at the same size, so each one of them have different ratio in the total size/value of the block. In the legal document the block is determined as a one asset, but have deticated sub-assets who represent the apartments in the block. So it's one assets, but have also legal registered sub-assets who is tightly bounded to the total size and total value of the block.

If I'm renting out this appartments, I want to collect rent for each appartment according to it's size and so on.

What I have found as a solution:
I can gain my needs through the intergration to the project management feature in AX, so the asset get one project, who is seperated through 10 sub-projects.

I also have found posts from users who are facing same problem as I am facing, but not exact the same. For example one user registered 50 chairs as one asset, but each chair have bar-code or unique identification number - and AX can't handle more than one ID number pr. asset.

There is also a possibility to register a location of the asset, but there is a same problem there: One location pr. Asset.

So, can I split up assets, in same way as I split up projects: One parent project who have several sub-projects? Can I have one major-asset and several sub-assets who have registrated ratio of the major asset?

    Hi Sigurdur,

You can split assets and create a hierarchy using the field Main fixed asset on the Structure tab of the Fixed asset details form. So yes, you can achieve this requirement.
