Hi All,
I can see 4 transactios types in project - WBS line, so I have two queries:
1) If I want to select a service item then how to select a service material in WBS line?
2) Why is this mandatory to select a item, can't we simply create a line with transaction type - Item and Project Category - Item (Without selecting an item) ?
Hi again, other option is to plan based on expense categories instead of items. I mean if you are using procurement categories on PR, you can add the project category to the procurement category (expense category) and then plan based on this one. this will avoid the item maintenance.

Mauricio
Thanks Ludwig, I got your views and it makes sense. I will talk to business users.
Hello nakul waghe,
If you don't know what will be consumed beforehand then I would not include it in the WBS unless you always use a standard kit of specific items that might most probably consumed.
About the requisition creation:
Do you really need to create 'unlisted products' and select them on the fly when creating the requisition?
I would rather try using already existing items and establish a standard.
Otherwise, you might get 'millions' of new items that are created over the next couple of years.
Is that really necessary/needed?
Best regards,
Ludwig
Hi Ludwig and Mauricio,
Sorry for being later here, got busy in some other stuff. I am clear on released product with product type as services which can be selected at the time of WBS creation. So answer yuor question Ludwig - These would be services such as Installation, Consulting, Training etc. which would be procured through Purchase Requisition >> PO process.
So all non-physical materials would be procured through Project Purchase Requisition to PO coversion step.
Regarding my second point - My point is at the time of Planning stage - WBS creation I am not clear on what material I am exactly going to consume and that would be decided at the project execution stage. So can't I simple create a line with item category and transaction type - Item and estimate against it?
What if I want to plan for non-phyiscal inventory as I said earlier such as - Consulting, Installation etc. and later at the time of requisition creation I create it by choosing Procurement category and using option - "Add unlisted product to lines"
Good mornign nakul,
Can you provide us some information on the service material /item that you mentioned under 1)
- What kind of item is that? How is it setup? What is it used for? etc
For 2:
Well, if you simply create an item 'on the fly' without specifying more information on item group, item configuration, etc. etc. then things might not work fully integrated for example if you create a purchase order for the item (element) that you have setup in the WBS. This would all not be consistent and how could you do an actual-budget comparison if later on you buy something totally different? Makes sense to you?
Hi Nakul.
Can you explain what do you mean with service material? seems you are doing a difference between service item and service material.
If that is not the case and you are mentioning service items, you can do it without any problem on the WBS
to your question, project module is meant to be used for item transactions, if we are talking about procurement categories or similar in the logic of the module that will be an expense transaction so when selecting transaction type item, really means items (either service or products)
