Finished Prod Order - Finished Qty of 0 after posting

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I cannot figure out why two of our production orders show a Finished Quantity of 0. Also, there is no consumption or output from this production order.  (There is a production BOM).

I am new to Navision so I don't fully understand the fundamentals, but from what I do know, I cannot figure this out.

RE: Finished Prod Order - Finished Qty of 0 after posting

Sorry, I cannot stop asking but who issues the components and book the final item to stock?

Anyway I will explain, posting in simple terms means issuing the components/book the final item to stock via Production Journal (hope this is the process your company follows). You can see the POST button this journal. Once every booking is done including any operator time, the user uses the "Change Status" button on the production order to mark it as finished. Once this is done, no postings are allowed on this production order.

In your case, it seems like the user has skipped the process of Production Journal but just clicked on CHANGE STATUS and ignored the warning message. To understand it more, you just need to try what I said in your test environment.

Adding dimensions is your company decision, yes the item can have dimensions. The below link is useful :

Also try using the Output Journal and the Consumption Journal to correct this Finished Production Order. The Output Journal is for the amount of the item produced. The Consumption Journal is for the amount of the raw materials consumed.

As stated above in my previous post, usually you use the Production Journal when the Production Order is still open to handle all these.

    Hello,

The main reason would be that the user who changed the status of the Production Order did not complete the Production Journal before changing status to Finished.

But that's exactly why I don't understand how come it didn't go down to 0 in the first place when posted.

I do know, the item that was on the production order had a dimension that was not supposed to be there.  Are dimensions involved when posting the production order?  (Also, what exactly is happening when we say "post" in this context?)

Since there is no postings on this works order, I dont think there is any cost related issues.  The remaining quantity becomes zero when you post the consumption of the items and book the item to stock. For eg: if your works order is for 10 and once you post 10 stock, finshed qty becomes 10 and remaining qty becomes 0.

Also another follow-up question:  What is the mechanism by which the remaining qty actually gets decreased (to zero?).  Does this happen manually by a user?  Or is it/can it be automated?

    Ok thanks.

When making a new production order in this scenario, are there any side effects that need to be considered?  like "Costing" ?

I just spoke with out materials purchasing person who says I shouldn't need to worry about the costing as we don't really do much with it in the system. They said we just take the last price used - plus we aren't tracking our inventories much for our materials anyway.

But are there are other side effects to consider?

RE: Finished Prod Order - Finished Qty of 0 after posting

When clicking on Change Status, it invokes the code unit 5407 "Prod. Order Status Management". It checks on the production order line for remaining qty <>0, then it checks to see whether there is any pending consumption qty on the Prod. Order Component (ie for any remaining qty <>0). You will get the above error message if any of these lines have a remaining qty <> 0. However if the user go ahead and override this message by clicking on YES, system will change the prod order to Finished.

You cannot reopen a finished production order. To fix your current scenario, I would advise to raise a new production order to produce the same quantity.

If this addresses your issue, please mark this as verified.

They are indeed in Finished status.  What are the conditions for causing the warning "Prod Order XX has not been finished/ Some output is still missing"  ??  This is what I want to understand.

Also, since I am assuming there is no way to fix these orders, what are the necessary steps to fix our problem?  Is it to create/post another production order that produces the same item/qty?

RE: Finished Prod Order - Finished Qty of 0 after posting

    Hi,

What state are these production orders now? Are they in Released or Finished status?

If it is in released status, you can still post the components and finish the production order.

However if it is in Finished status, it is user forced. When you click on change status on a released production order, it warns as "Production Order xxxxx has not been finished. Some output is still missing. Do you still want to finish the order?" if the user clicks YES, definitely the order will get finished with a finished qty of 0 and no components issued.

This is by standard and you can test this in your test company/database.

If this addresses your issue, please mark this as verified.

    Regards,

    Cecil
