upgrade for CRM 2016 and CRm 2016 Upgrade to 3659.0

Hi All,

We are planning the current CRM 2016 update in 2 phases.

First we are only trying to update the SQL 2012 R2 to SQL 2016 because 2012 support has been expired. Please suggest how to migrate to only SQL 2016 and which version shall it be. (Production)

2nd we have 2016 CRM version 8.1.0.381, can we directly go to 9.0? or shall we update the rollup of December 2016 which will convert 2016 into 365?

Do let me know any article and also let me know if the above plan makes sense or its not supported

Thank you,

    Thanks for the reply Saurabh, i will go through above items.

    Correct me if i am wrong, as per my understanding if we are going to upgrade the SQL we would be needing new servers for SQL and same new for CRM(CRM would be having the same 2016 at the moment). Install CRM -> Import DB in  new setup  with 2016 SQL CU9 and Report services and configure all the integration etc .

    Would this be correct approach? i am quite much confused only where we need to upgrade SQL 2012 R2 to SQL 2016CU9 and CRM version remains the same.

    Hello,

    For SQL ::

    You may follow these documentations to understand if you would like to go with a new installation upgrade or an in-place upgrade options.

    Before upgrading, back up SQL Server databases and other objects associated with the previous SQL Server instance.

    For many production and some development environments, a new installation upgrade or a rolling upgrade is more appropriate than an in-place upgrade. For more information regarding upgrade methods, see:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/install-windows/choose-a-database-engine-upgrade-method?view=sql-server-ver15

    For CRM ::

    The recommended approach would be to consume December 2016 update first, then the highest CU update available for v8 and finally update to version 9.0.

    Cumulative updates available for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 8.2 & 9.0 ::

    Please mark my comments as answered if this helps.

    Thanks,

    Saurabh
