Master scheduling with long run production orders

Posted on by 135

I have long running production orders (multiple days) and MRP is pegging sales orders correctly at production order end date.

Though the products are becoming available almost on a daily basis and I want to know if it is possible to tell the MRP to

calculate the delivery date based on real availability out of production.

Let me make an example.

A planned production order for 1000 pieces is planned to start today and end in 10 days.

I have 10 sales order each for 100 pieces

MRP is pegging all the sales orders with a delivery date in 10 days from today.

Nevertheless production is 100 pieces per day, so sales order 1 can be served on day 1, sales order 2 can be server on day 2 etc etc

Is there a way to have MRP doing so?

The reason is that the production order itself has just one inventory date. It doesn't know other possible dates unless you have the order per date.

    André,

you are right, though having a proliferation of planned production orders, may overwhelm the production planners.

That's the reason why we have the coverage group with period 14, in order to group all the planned production orders that are within 14 days.

It would have been nice if MRP, as it looks at product route to compute capacity, knows how many pieces can be produced in a time window and automatically calculates when a sales order can be served.

I'm not getting yet your comments why changing mold is related to the coverage period of 14 days. I would try to get 10 production orders as end result of the MRP instead of 1. If there are reasons why you can't have this, you can consider splitting the prodution orders before starting each day.

    Hello André,

I'm trying to answer with as many details as possible.

The coverage group has a coverage period of 14. The item produced has no safety stock and the minimum batch is calculated so that is at least 1 day of production. The delivery date for the orders is within the 14 days from the coverage group. The reason for this setting is because changing mold is the most disruptive activity in the production process both for time consumption and for scraps.

If you need additional info please let me know

    Regards,

    Hi Sjoe,

If you now have 10 sales orders, what exact settings do you have that there is a planned production order for the total? What is the delivery date on the orders (future date)? What exact settings do you have for master planning? Do you have default or minimum inventory quantities setup for the production item?
