Import Journal Entries

We have one Import JE set up in our software. I have created another one but I can not seem to get the entries I want to import to upload into that new one. It defaults to the original import that was created. Does anyone have any information regarding how to get the import to upload to the new one I created?

    Hi,

What is an "Import JE" - I haven't come across this. Can you give more detail e.g. version of NAV and how you are importing into NAV

This is what we named our import through general journals. We are able to import journals from CSV files.

    Hi,

You will have to check your customisation to see if the import is hard coded to one format. Otherwise can you give a more in depth description of the setup.

I am not sure about the import being hard coded. I am aware that you can build imports but not sure how to post to the newly created import file.

It really depends on how the import was done. What I'd be looking at is code that sets template and batch values, both in the dataitem triggers and in the dataport triggers. There might also be code in field triggers. The easiest way to see all the code in one place is to export the ojbect as text and see what is happening. Then, when you know what code is where, you can go back to the object in the NAV object designer and make the changes that you need.

If you're not sure about this then you need to get some help. If you work for a NAV partner, get a more senior developer involved, if you work for an end user company then get your NAV partner involved.

    Hi,

Let me explain the background first. In Nav there is not a standard mechanism to import into general journals. This can be acheived by a number of options one of which your implementation partner choose.

The most common are (all of which require coding):

    1. Import from a CSV file using a dataport

    2. Import from the CSV use C/AL code

    3. Import through Excel.

From what you are describing your partner has develop a user interface around one of these options called "Import JE" which allows you to configure what is imported.

Without more detail it is hard to direct you other than talking to the partner who implemented this.

    Hope this helps

In other words, since I created a "Journal Entry Dataport" you can not help me with trying to pull the information from my file into the new dataport?

    Hi,

Yes, we can help but you will have to give a more detailed description of the issue you are facing e.g. is it opening the same file and you what the properity to change this.

First of all, teach yourself to use proper naming. There is nothing in the standard app that is simply called "journal entry". There are a number of Journal Line tables for various functional areas, and you should call the import using those names. It might sound a bit like a nitpicking point, but it will make it easier for you to develop and troubleshoot down the line.

So let's assume that you are talking about General Journal Lines. The table is called "Gen. Journal Line". As with other journal line tables, its primary key is "Journal Template Name,Journal Batch Name,Line No.", which means that for every combination of Journal Template and Journal Batch, you can have a number of journal lines. This is important to know, because it is the foundation for your import.

Then, you need to figure out what information you have in your file, and what you need to program. It's really a matter of figuring it out one step at a time, which, in case of someone very junior, is best done face to face, either by getting a senior or the NAV partner involved to help you out. I'm sure you'll get some help out of these forums, but it will be too slow, you really need to get real time help.
