How can we use Excel to import new journal lines into AX 2012? LedgerServices

Does anyone know the process to import a new ledger line into a new or existing Ledger Header using excel (without Atlas)?

I can list ledger transaction and even create a journal header using the LedgerServices service in the Excel Add-in.  I understand the service does not support the update method so existing records cannot be changed.

I am trying to create a new journal header and new lines.  We are even willing to first create the header if needed directly from the AX Client if needed.

Is there anyway to create a new journal line from Excel?

Thank you for any reply.. been working on this for a long time and just cannot get it to work.

Are you getting any errors when you create lines ?

Chris, did you get anywhere with this? I am too at the same point, I can import a header but then when I attempt to import the lines I get "The GeneralJournalService Service does not support Update."

I cannot seem to create the header and lines at the same time also?

    Hi Chris

Can you share why you don't want to use Atlas.   Here is an example of import 10,000 journal lines just fine.

    Thanks.

Atlas is good, but importing ledger journal lines works out of the box without extra license costs.

Just create the service group for ledger services, expose it in AIF and add it as a datasource. Then you can go into Excel and select the ledger service, it supports the financial dimensions and it will create a header for you as well.

What specific issues are you having?

Joris, the AX service only supports account type of Ledger whereas Atlas supports Vendor, Customer, Project, Bank and Assets - a great way of getting opening balances into AX.

I'd not recommend Atlas for this single task, Atlas is great for true end-user reporting and for uploads you want to push out company wide - maybe a timesheet for instance.   Let the employee use Atlas to report off last weeks time, make some changes and upload it back (to this week).

With regards to extra one-off license costs, you should consider the real TCO when it comes to all these AX 2012 Services - an AX developer is needed to make whatever changes are needed (maybe you have a custom field), put this through development and live environments.     If you multiply this out for each and every upload and I think you will find that the moderate one-off cost of Atlas actually saves the organization time and money.

    Dear Steve Wright,

Do you have any document guide to create Atlas template for each kind of transaction? Or could you please send me atlas template for import opening balance of ledger and subledger transaction for AX 2012?

    Thank you very much

    Hi Rabia

If you register at www.Atlas4DynamicsAX.com you will have access to many report and upload samples.     On this site are full training guides also.

    Hi Chris,

U can write a custom script in X++ or .net which consume Ledger services and reads data from excel and write to AX.

Sample X++ without Excel code is provided in below article:
