Change BOM item type to a Purchased item

I have an item that is currently manufactured in-house, but would like to set it up as a purchased item. I want the flexibility to produce and purchase if needed without changing the top level of the SKU.

thank you for any help

    Hi Kenk,

Can you indicate which version of AX you are using? There is a difference between versions up to AX2009 and AX2012.

What is the decision point on the flexibility? So can I presume it is "usually" a manufactured item and when capacity is an issue you decide to purchase? What costing method do you have and are finance happy for the swinging costs between make and buy?

It seems we can change from a Purchased item to a BOM Item, just not from BOM to purchased.

    Example:

if you have multiple facilities2 & 3 and I want to produce/purchase from one of these, but at the same time still have the ability to produce a certain percentage from facility1. I am aware of cost changes from 2nd or 3rd supplier, but thought it would pass thru a MUV  without a revaluation.

    Thank you for any suggestions,

    Ken Keenan

I meant where in the process, but I think you mean that the difference is static.

In this case you need to have configured the item coverage to change the planned order by warehouse, assuming you have the item coverage set at warehouse level and the facilities mentions are warehouses. In this way you can have the default planned order being purchase at 3 and production at 2.

Create Item Group with Purchase and Production setup

    technet.microsoft.com/.../aa589971.aspx

Assign this item Group to Item

Item should not have Purchase stoped under Default Order setting.

Please verify and let us know your findings
