Automatic sales tax calculation in CRM Sales - Orders (and Quotations)

Is there a way for the tax to be automatically calculated on an Order, when the customer account has been set with a 10% sales tax, and the product is set as Taxable, system setting set to  ? Our client will be manually entering the selling price on the orders lines per product, and wants that the Tax total be automatically calculated for each line, summed for all taxable items and shown as total tax line. I've read that this works in Field Service, but i can't see it working for Sales - Quotes and Orders. This is for D365 CRM Online.

Appreciate your feedback! Thank you.

You could use a Business Rule that looks at the Total Detail Amount field (which is automatically updated when new order/quote lines get added / modified) and uses a formula to calculate the Total Tax field.

(However, a Business Rule requires that all the fields you reference are on the same entity (Quote/Order). So your Sales Tax number should be copied from the account record over to the order/quote at creation.)

    Something like this:

    settax.PNG

Edit: Note that out-of-the-box the Total Tax amount is calculated based on the tax recorded on the line items on the quote/order. The above assumes that tax field on order/quote product records is not used.

Thank you...I will try this option. I need this to calculate on each order line, then summed up for the total.

Calculating the tax within each line (Quote/Order Product) cannot unfortunately be done using OOB workflows (this type of record itself is not available in the Update Record step). You can use Business Rules inside Quote/Order Product but again you can only reference fields which are on the record itself and not from related records.

If you're happy with the answer please set it to Verified.

I have been searching for this answer for about a week now. I had to set a flat 10% tax rate to all products, and every other post was about plugins or scripting. Thank you for providing an option using the OOB tools that provides the same outcome.  I cannot seem to "verify" someone else's post, but if there is anything i can do to help your increase your rating let me know! Thanks again.

Take a look at triomis.de VAT Calculation solution for Dynamics 365. Looks like it’ll fit your requirement.

    Hi JR2001,

You can automatically calculate sales tax by creating a calculated field.
