.axc global file association

A global file association for .axc to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Client\Bin\Ax32.exe was set up. Unfortunately I was drawn in to the issue because suddenly all applications located in the c:\Program Files (x86) directory had lost their application icons across the domain. Was wondering if anyone could look at this and tell me what they did wrong. Still need to get this going since we are going to have 3 ax sites, live/dev/training that will be accessed via the config files. Appreciate any help.

    Hi dfeifer,

I don't think we know what happened in your domain. Probably there was a global push for a certain application to all clients. I have seen due to a wrong central software management that AX clients were removed from all clients.

Can you verify if there were software updates (Microsoft or other applications) could have caused this issue?

I believe this has to do solely with the group policy object. I have 6 brand new Lenovo laptops that I am re imaging with their windows 10 and this issue was showing up on them as soon as they were joined to the domain and group policy was updated on them. This issue was showing up across the board, xp, vista, 7, 10 and our 2008r2 servers.

We do not have any software management suites that we use. and the ax clients were never installed locally on any of the machines here.

What we DO have are 6 servers on a host with a server 2012r2 dc in a server 2003 forest level being hosted for us. Main access will be through the rd gateway via rd or remote app.

Currently there are 2 RD sessions that DO have the ax client installed on them and when I logged in to them they appeared to have the missing icon issue as well. After this happened I edited the policy and took out the authenticated users object and added in a Microsoft Dynamics AX users security group. After doing this I was able to force update group policy and run a registry import to get the 32 bit execution file icons back. Though, with 147 computers this took most of the day.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm aware of some features related to policies and software distribution, but I'm not a Windows or Policy expert. I'm a Dynamics AX expert. So to be honest I can't understand what exactly you have done with the group policies.
