How to create roles, duties and privileges

Posted on by 120

Hello everyone,

I need to learn how to create duties, roles and privileges in AX 2012. If there is any tutorial or any literature by which I can learn it well it will be a great favour and help.

    Hola R@vi,

Currently, many have discussed it on the Internet. To make it easier, try to find the video tutorial on YouTube.

    Best regards,

I think that question should be asked in a new thread since it's not related to your original question.

If you have a task to create privileges for these forms I suggest you first ask your colleague (the one that gave you the task, or another functional consultant) where these forms and buttons can be found in the UI. Then you can find in AOT which menu items are used to open/run them, and find the existing out of the box privileges for them. Usually it is not necessary to create your own privileges for the standard forms.

The process I described works in all your security related tasks so it's much more useful to you than us listing those few form names. You learn more and can help yourself better.

    Hallo,

If you want to create role, duties, or previlieges. You can create in module "System Administration" or you can use AOT.

In  module "System Administration", you can using menu "Security Entry Point.

And in AOT you can using menu "Security".

    Thank you.

    Hi R@vi,

Once you are familiar with the architecture of the security framework, with help from the links provided by Ludwig, you can also use the Security Development Tool. This tool is used in the blog shared by Blue Wang.

I created several blogs around security development tool which are quite interesting.

Also Alex Meyer created some good posts:

    Good Morning R@vi,

A good starting point is the MS docs site:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../role-based-security

In addition, there are a lot of blog posts and articles available that explain things in detail.

If you select the learn button on top of this community forum you can browse those blogs and get an idea about the "does and dont's" and the best practices when it comes to creating roles, etc.

Additional help can be found in the role based security whitepaper that you can download from here:

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
