I have an asset who is purchased (lets suppose in 2000). and I want to enter that asset in year 2013 on its actual cost, and run accumulative depreciation of about 10 years on that asset. is it possible to do this in dynamics gp so that I can see actual price of that asset, accumulative depreciation and written down value.

    This is a common case that we encounter when entering FA opening balances in Dynamics GP, an asset that was purchases several years ago to be entered with all the associated details. Usually, you need to retrieve the following details either manually or as exported from the old system;

    1. Acquisition cost
    2. Acquisition Date
    3. Cost basis (supposedly as the acquisition cost)
    4. Depreciation method
    5. YTD
    6. LTD
    7. Salvage value (if any)
    8. Original life years, days
    Once all these values are entered, Dynamics GP will provide reset options for the asset which are; Life, Year or Recalculate. You may check the following reference at Dynamics Accounting for a thorough explanation of the three reset choices; Weekly Dynamic: What REALLY happens with FA Recalculate
    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

    thanks for quick reply, I have one question now, Acquisition cost mean actual cost of asset at the time of purchase, or cost after written down value calculation ?

    The acquisition cost is the cost at which the asset was originally purchased.
