Experience with integration of 3rd party POS solutions

Hi,

as we currently are evaluating possible scenarios for a customer interested in Dynamics AX, may i ask if anybody has some experience with integrating a 3rd party POS solution? In my understanding, integration can be achieved by using the CRT-framework and SDK, depending on the functionalities required by the 3rd-party solution.

Are there any known pain points or architectural limitations? E.g. from architectural perspective, would you recommend to have an integration platform like BizTalk in between to ensure monitoring etc.?

Thank you very much,

best regards,

That can be a “tricky” question. Because it can be quite dependent of the POS capabilities.

You can call CDX Real-time services from third party POS, simulating the Microsoft Dynamics AX Retail POS. In this scenario I can confirm you that it works without any major issues.  Using the Microsoft Modern POS API, you can take advantage of a simpler API, because you can use REST Web Services ( I never performed a live integration using this API).

I’m not a huge fan of BizTalk for these scenarios but it is a customer decision. Some customers have centralized interfaces in BizTalk because of thier their custom alarms and metrics.

Thank you very much for your answer.

In case of using the CDX-real time services, i would see to have an "additional" channel database per store and integrate the 3rd POS solution with it using CDX/CRT. Would you agree?

Is there a need for having also an additional retail server in the store or can integration be realised with CRT of channel server?

    Thank you!

If you are using CDX real time services, you should be invoking directly AX Server services. If you want resilience at store level, you need to have the offline server at the store for the async data synchronization. If you are using async services you also need retail server.
