Hi,
I'm looking to migrate year-end balances from Sage 2018/2019 March 31st, into D365 (so I effectively just taking the Trial balance values for each account). Which data entity do you recommend for this? I am using the General Journal Account Entry data entity as it has every single transaction or would you recommend any other from your experience? Or would you use the addin? Further are there any depedencies on this other than required config, i.e. need to ensure a certain column or field is filled in (other than the obvious)?
Thanks,
Hello MKHAN123,
You can use General journal data entity to upload the opening balances in D365 through Data management.
When you click on "Import" in Data management and select this entity; you can check what are the mandatory tables are to be maintained with data in View map. System will show you mandatory tables with a red star mark.
Alternatively; you can use the Open in excel (Excel add-ins) option as available in the General journal form in D365. Once the excel is generated; you can edit the table to add more columns to fit your data to upload.
Best regards,Sourav Dam

Good Morning MKHAN123,
What kind of data / account balances do you want to migrate?
Did you work with something similar to financial dimensions (e.g. cost centers) in Sage and do you want to see also those financial dimension values in D365FO for the previous year?
If so, you have to migrate ledger account - financial dimension combination balances.
A simple trial balance account balance migration would not be sufficient in this case.
Another thing:
How do you plan to bring over open customer & vendor transactions?
They are usually posted through subledgers and not migrated by transferring balances on ledger accounts in a GL journal.
What about those data?
Best regards,
Ludwig
Hi Ludwig, thank you for responding.
You are quite correct as I do have to take open receivables/invoices to create a GL control account and sub-ledger balance. So I suppose I'll have to do a mixture of GL Journal as well as sub-ledger entries (i.e. FA, Sales and Purchase) - the GL will be for all other entries outside those accounts that are sub ledger control accounts and those that have been offset. I'll get back to you in the future as this is an ongoing challenge in terms of process, i.e. what should I migrate transactionally first.
Thanks
Hi MKhan123,
You are on the right track regarding the sub-ledger/general ledger transactions and balance transactions.
