Copy relationships from one entity to another

Hi,

I am trying to accomplish something, and there doesn't seem to be an answer anywhere.  Any help is appreciated.

I have 3 entities.  A is related to C with N:N and B is related to C with 1:N.  A is related to B with 1:N.

What I am trying to accomplish is that there are the related entries of C in a subgrid in A.

B would have selected A, in the lookup.

I need to have an option, such as a workflow, that when it is run, all the entries in C, are copied over to the related B.

Thanks guys!

    Hi,

Unfortunately, you'd only be able to accomplish this with a custom workflow assembly. CRM is pretty good working with fields on your record, or one specific record it can get to  via N:1 relationship, but in workflows you can't do anything with 1:N or N:N relationships. There are add-ons that will let you query for data on related records and run workflows on them (Workflow Elements at kaskela.wordpress.com comes to mind, but that's because I wrote it ;).

Hope this help! I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as Answering your question.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hi veshant,

+1 for Aiden's suggestion.  Can't do this OOTB.  Check out below article which explains how to create a custom workflow activity to do what you are after but more generic way.

    bernado-nguyen-hoan.com/.../custom-workflow-activity-to-process-multiple-related-records-crm

In this, you can pass in a FetchXML query as a parameter, additional arguments, and a workflow to execute.  Custom workflow activity will query CRM and run the workflow on all returned records.

One of the 3rd party solutions available in this space is “Click2Clone

Form your explanation, it seems that you have three entity with the below relationships.

    1.  A to B - 1:N relationship.
    2.  B to C - 1:N relationship.
    3.  A to C - N:N relationship.

Click2Clone allows you to clone the records from 1:N and N:N relationship.

So using this solution, you could copy the B and C entity records associated with record A when you create a copy of record A.

You can contact us offline, if you need additional details around this.

    Thanks !
