capture incomming document from scanner or mail

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi

I wonder if it is possible to create an incoming document directly from scanner instead of from a file.

Also I would like to know if its possible to take a document directly from email attachment without having to download/upload via file.

I only interested in the simpleste incoming document setup without ocr, workflow and other advanced features.

Best regards

Through scanning incoming email and indexing files automatically, you will not only gain control of your inner email process, without a greater loss of efficiency, loss of file manipulate and lack of precious information, however, you will also have the possibility to combine email formats within the same reports processing float.

Yes you could scan document directly from scanner instead of from a file. to document scanning solutions you could transform your paper files into searchable digital images.

    Thanks Jonathan

I now see that this solution from Gunnars Blog is a programming solution.

I close the thread assuming that the short answer is no. It is not possible within the NAV 2016 standard solution to capture documents from scanner or email.

    Hi again

Thanks for all replies so far, but maybe I should have also mentioned I do not want middleware (except for the scanner driver). I want to know about the standard

    out-of-the-box NAV 2016 possibilities.

I have read an old post about implementing a twain driver somehow in NAV 2013 and the post even shows a screenshot from the Create incoming document process with a push button  labled "Scan". It seems to me that this did not require any programming or middleware, but I'm not sure.

Both options - using mail attachment or scanner plus OCR service - are available in NAV 2016. Start with this info re Incoming Documents:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../dn892104(v=nav.90).aspx

You would need a OCR service to be integrated with NAV (you would need a 3rd party functionality for recognition). Refer to MSDN how-to info re setup of OCR service:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../dn951536(v=nav.90).aspx

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../dn951568(v=nav.90).aspx

To get attachments out of a mail you can use ews, the exchange web services. Call that in a custom cu using .net. to capture documents directly from nav you can buy on of the available nav addons for document capture.
