Implementation and pipeline set up

Hello,

My question has two parts, hopefully I can get some guidance. Important to note that at this stage I am working in the sales TRIAL environment.

1. I have extensive CRM experience however I have not used Dynamics at all. I have been given the task of setting up sales (which is the only module the business has chosen to use) and need to enter existing clients and their committed revenue, contacts, leads and opportunities, as well as set up the sales pipeline and forecasting/budgets. My initial thoughts after spending a day exploring how Dynamics works is that it has the potential to be an excellent and powerful CRM, however for a first time user that does not have a technical background - I think it's going to be difficult to customise (out of the box is not going to cut it for us) and configure to produce the set up needed. We are only a small business and I feel maybe this is too complex for us to start out with. So essentially small business wanting complex customer management and pipeline management learning from scratch - to big an ask??

2. Regarding the pipeline - all the literature I can find suggests I should be able to edit the Stage Category under settings > customization > Customise the system >  option sets > stage category. Can anyone tell me if this could be due to any of the following:

- I am in a trial system and not able to access the full functionality offered in production

- it's not editable 

-the trial account is not set up with the correct permissions

Essentially I have been asked to create a weighted pipeline with vastly different stages to OOB options and I need to know how achievable this is within dynamics (i'm sure it can be done - I'm not sure I'm skilled enough to build it!)

    Hi,

    Thank you for your query.

    You can follow instructions on the following doc to customize the pipeline as per your need:

    Now,  As far as you are using Sales Enterprise trial, you should able to do all of the customizations (these are not restricted in a trial environment).

    To customize the system, you can try following steps:

    • Go to Advanced Settings -> Customization - Customize the System.

    Can you please tell us which customization option is disabled for you? A screenshot will help us to understand it better.

    Thanks so much for your reply.

    see following screenshots - one is of the microcoft docs instructions that show that there should be an option set called 'stage category' that I can customise. Second screenshot is the only option set that I can find in the trial environment related to sales stage. It cannot be edited and does not match the actual categories in the system at the BPF stage (the categories I see match those listed in the microsoft docs screenshot.)

    In addition to this; I've also been trying to set up a simple sales forecast and again, functionality that the microsoft docs refer to is not present in my environment. e.g  in this microsoft doc for forecast management (Capture forecast category for opportunity - Sales Enterprise | Microsoft Docs), 'Forecast Category' appears as a drop down field in opportunities. This field does not exist in my opportunities and only the depreciated 'opportunity grade' exists in my option set.

    So I'm not sure if it's just the environment, but If I can't see how it works if defeats the purpose of a trial!
