Item Variants

Hello Again

I have a simple question about the capabilities to set up complex item variants, as I am explaining below:

Practically speaking, I have three types of variants for all the items which are:

  • Color: red, Black, White, Grey , blue
  • Size: L, XL, Small, X Small, XXL
  • Category: A , B

I don't want to manually go through all the possibilities of the matched options in Dynamics NAV as illustrated below:

  • Color - Size - Category
  • Red - L - A
  • Red - XL - A
  • Red - Small - A
  • Red - X Small - A
  • Red - XXL - A
  • Red - L - B
  • Red - XL - B
  • Red - Small - B
  • Red - X Small - B
  • Red - XXL - B
  •  ... etc

As you can see, it is a hectic manual process. I just want to pick those three categories for the item, and then click on something like "Create Variants", so that the system will automatically create all possible combination.

Note:

This is an out of the box feature in Dynamics AX. Please Let me know if it is available in Dynamics NAV as well

Thanks in Advance,

Thanks for the prompt response Mohana

In other words, you are saying that I am supposed to manually create the combination, right ?

No, you can write a report/codeunit to create above combinations.

Unfortunately, there is no such option in standard NAV. You can either create the combinations in Excel and import them using copypaste or RapidStart, or make your own customization, or use configurations, already available for the market. E.g., Trimit guys have such option. https://www.trimit.com/

There is not such standard feature availale in NAV but you can achieve by doing customization or simplest would be create all those in excel and import the data using Rapid Start Services.

If you have NAV & LS Retail database, you already have such complex variant framework functionality available out of the box. This is very common requirements in Retail and hence LS has built this particular functionality long ago.

You can see if you can get the LS database and get the required functionality in your NAV database.

You can find Variant Framework Code & Variant Framework Registration Functionality, which create the variants automatically in the system, as and when you add new variants values.
