Transfer Orders Created from Planning Worksheet

Hi:

I just learned in another question that I posted to this forum Dimension Code Values will not default properly into a Transfer Order unless you manually create that Order and enter the "To Location Code" prior to entering the "From Location Code".

The problem with that is that we have Transfer Orders created automatically by the planning worksheet as a part of production.

A manual creation of a transfer order does not work very well in a production environment.

The fact that Locations have to be entered in a different sequence and to have to create a Transfer Order manually to accommodate proper Dimension Value "defaulting" is a bug.

Is this going to be fixed, in the near future?

Hello, In Business Central, dimensions on Transfer Orders default based on the From Location Code. Since automated Transfer Orders from the Planning Worksheet follow a set logic, they may not default dimensions as expected when created this way. Manually entering the To Location Code first is a known workaround, but this is not ideal in a production environment.

Currently, Business Central does not provide a fix for this behavior, as it follows the standard dimension inheritance logic. If a resolution is needed, customization through AL development or a pre-processing step in the transfer order creation process may be required. You can also submit this as a feature request via Microsoft's Ideas portal for future consideration.

    Hello,

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, there is an issue where Dimension Code Values do not default correctly in Transfer Orders unless the "To Location Code" is entered before the "From Location Code." This poses a problem for automatically created Transfer Orders in a production environment. Currently, there is no automatic fix for this, and it may require a customization or a support request to Microsoft to address the issue.

It is advisable to log a support request with Microsoft to see if they can provide a solution or update for this.

Did you learn that from one of the AI bots below that provide wrong answers to every question they respond to?  They are literally taking information from your question and feeding it right back to you.  If you worded your question in a way that doesn't suggest a problem with the software, you wouldn't get so many responses where AI thinks it is a problem with the software.

I think it would be better to add a simple customization, such as adding an Apply location dimension button on the Transfer order, click it and select the current location, and then confirm to apply the location dimension to the current document.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Yes, a simple customization like adding an "Apply Location Dimension" button on the Transfer Order page would be an efficient solution. When clicked, it could:
Read the "To Location Code" from the Transfer Order.
Fetch the predefined Dimension Values for that Location.
Apply the Dimension Values to the Transfer Order lines.
This way, users can manually trigger the dimension update without needing to follow a specific entry sequence.
