Default Dimension Priorities Not Working for Transfer Orders

Hi:

We have a Dimension Code called "LOCATION", with values of 1 and 5.

Location Code "1" defaults to 1, and Location Code "5" defaults to 5.

Both the Items and the SKUs have "Mandatory Code" of 1|5 but no default Dimension Value.

Likewise, Location Code "INTRANSIT" has "Mandatory Code" of 1|5 but no default Dimension Value.

In a Transfer Order, we're transferring from Location Code "1" to Location Code "5".

Upon posting the Transfer Order's Shipment, however, the Dimension Value used is 5.  This should be 1.

So, we manually changed the Transfer Order's header and line to 1.

Afterward, upon posting the Transfer Order's Receipt, the Dimension Value used is of course 1.  This should be 5.

Next, we manually changed the Transfer Order's header and line to 5.

Everything posted successfully, but we don't want users to have to manually enter Dimension Values like this.

We tried correcting this by using the "Default Dimension Priorities" screen for Transfer Orders by setting Location to a Priority of 1 and Item to a Priority of 2.

But, the results of a newly processed Transfer Order remained the same.

Why, and what is the fix?

Thanks!

John

Default Dimension Priorities Not Working for Transfer Orders
    Hello,

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, the issue with Dimension Code Values not defaulting correctly in Transfer Orders, despite setting Default Dimension Priorities, arises because the system does not automatically update the dimension to match the "To Location Code" upon receipt. This behavior is due to the standard logic of Business Central, which may not align with your expectations. To resolve this, you may need to implement a customization that dynamically updates the dimensions based on the shipment and receipt stages or set up a validation rule to remind users to make necessary changes before posting.

Default Dimension Priorities Not Working for Transfer Orders

Hello, In Business Central, dimension values on Transfer Orders inherit from the From Location Code, but when the order is posted, the system may not automatically switch the dimension correctly for the To Location Code upon receipt. Since INTRANSIT does not have a default dimension value, the system follows its standard logic, which may not align with your expectations.

While setting Default Dimension Priorities helps in cases where multiple sources define dimensions, it does not override system behavior for transfer shipments and receipts. Unfortunately, Business Central does not automatically update the dimension to match the To Location Code upon receipt. To resolve this, you may need a customization to ensure that dimensions dynamically update based on the shipment and receipt stages or implement a validation rule to remind users of necessary changes before posting.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Regards,

Thanks, but the problem is that the transfer order was created by the planning worksheet as a part of production.

A manual creation of a transfer order does not work very well in a production environment.

The fact that Locations have to be entered in a different order is a bug, in my humble opinion.

I hope that this gets fixed, someday.  This is a serious issue.

Hi, I have tested this before, and it has something to do with the order in which you input.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.
