I am trying to setup SMTP to make an automated workflow for sending emails in BC. When I try to send a test email (via Email Setup) I get this error:

Cannot authenticate the credentials on server smtp.office365.com.

Can I fix this error? Or is SMTP not the way to go anymore?

Hi,

By any chance are you using Gmail or any other domain as SMTP setup. if yes then Business central does not support gmail accounts to be used as SMTP. Refer the below link for more information.

Note: You add email accounts through extensions that enable accounts from different providers to connect to Business Central. The standard extensions let you use accounts from Microsoft Exchange Online. However, other extensions that let you connect accounts from other providers, such as Gmail, might be available.

Hi jdrco,

I have already written an article previously, and the article explains the detailed steps that required to follow while setting smtp either for Outlook or Gmail.

Make sure you are using below settings for Outlook or Gmail.

In case of Gmail make sure you have enables Less Secure App setting for your Gmail account.

Hi

In Email Accounts what is your default email? Let say for the email you want to sent the scenario assigned to "current user" then that "current user" did not authentication in BC to send email. Then it is a chance that you cannot send email.

But first make sure to follow guideline by other experts.

Is it possible to use send emails from my company domain? @companyname.com.

Hi, you need to check your settings on the Email Accounts page.

Try to use Send Test Email feature to find the problem.

For example, my smtp setup:

Send test mail.

Confirm in Sent Emails.

And in my outlook.
