Trace Exact Item Componets serial lot from Item which is Sold.

How can I trace the serial number of a part belonging to an Item which is sold?

Actually, the case is that we have received an Item returned from a customer (which is previously sold) under the warranty and we have to trace the serial number of the components we used in that particular Item (which is previously sold).

Please suggest a way out.

The system we are using in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015.
