B2B - information into NAV 2013

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Our company currently does not have an e-commerce website, nor do we necessarily want one, as we are a B2B business and only sell to approved Dealers that have terms. Moving forward we are looking at the possibility of working with those Dealers and having them submit their orders to us in an Excel format with the goal to be able to take those files and have that information imported back into NAV in a Sales Order format (similar to what I currently do with Budgets) ultimately with the goal of eliminating the data entry.

First of all is this something that is even possible and if so has anyone done this?

    Hi,

I would recommend to use the XML port since the sales orders are not only one table but it contains header and details table (any others as per localisations).

Since this excel sheet is getting filled up by the customers it will be confusing if give them a separate sheet or workbook for header and line items.

We can do a XML code and create one line excel sheet where customer can fillup the data . the developer can also do some code in XML to get the default values automatically while creating the sales order and it will be very easy.

We have done this work for many of our customers and it is working perfectly.

You only need to consult your development partner for Dynamics NAV and asked them to do this.

    Regards,

    Saurabh Shah

    Hello Norm:

If you ever change your mind about eCommerce I recommend you to visit i95Dev. I strongly believe that eCommerce can do wonders for B2B companies like yours. We have worked with a number of B2B customers and they all are very happy with their decision of implementing eCommerce.

We have recently worked with a B2B distribution company and you might want to read about them here.

    Regards,

    Vishnu

You can easily import data from Excel files. There are few ways to do that. Simplest way is to use RapidStart which is inbuilt function in the Dynamics NAV. Follow below links for more info on rapid start :

Else you can use XML ports to import data, or if you want to automate the Excel data import process, that also possible in Dynamics NAV.  Both the last options would need  a help from a Microsoft Dynamics Partner with a Developer license.

There is RapidStart, which will allow importing data from an excel worksheet. Also, from an excel worksheet you can actually copy the rows and then paste them into the 'Lines' area of a sales order. To get this to work the columns have to be in a certain order (also Type, No., & Quantity may need to be the first columns - you'll have to test it - but this method does work.)

Yes, importing data from excel and creating any record in NAV is possible.  A lot of my clients use it for creating Items, and sales orders.
