Sorting numbers in the CE system

Hi,
We are having an issue with sorting numbers in the Field Service CE system. The way CE sorts numbers we are told, is an OOB functionality and that is how Microsoft designed the system. That just seems odd to me and I am curious if there is some checkbox somewhere that can alter the way the numbers are sorted or if it would truly require customization coding. Currently, it looks at the first number and sorts rather than the total number sequence. Example 92185 is sorted as a LARGER number than 172993 because it's not considering the total number of digits first, only the first number in the sequence.

Any help to resolve this would be appreiated

Thank you. Is that a setting somewhere that can be changed?

    Hi,

This issue can be related to the field type. Are you sure that the field type is 'Number' rather than 'Text', as I can see that the system sorts the numbers as text in your example?

    Hi.
We do not use commas or periods in our numbering of work orders because that takes up a digit in the character count. So our work orders would 92350 or 171251 or 625255. The system will sort them as 171251 first then 625255 then 92350 even though technically 92350 is the smallest number.

    Thanks
    Cindy

    Hi,

I have not reproduced the problem you describe in my testing.
I created three types of number fields, whole, decimal, and float.
Sort them individually and they all work as expected.

Can you provide more detailed information about the number being sorted and what type of field it is?

    Best Regards,
    Dengliang Li
