Hi,

In AX 7, I just came across the error as below:

"x++ project cannot be built. another build is in progress".

Any idea?

Thanks,

Please give us more information, otherwise we can't help you.

When does it happen? What are you building and are you doing it in Visual Studio or using an automated build? If in VS, what if you restart VS?

    Thanks Martin,

After rebooting the server, the issue was resolve.

Server reboot is the last thing you should do. You can either wait for build to finish or cancel it from Build - > Cancel build.

    Hi Martin,

We have multiple developers working on same development machine and the same pointed same TFS. At a time only 1 user able to build project or solution. It will be difficult for 2 users build same time with different project name. VS IDE allowing 1 user to build the solution at a time. if 2nd user trying to build his solution it is giving error "X++ project cannot be built. another user build inprogress".

    Please suggest alternatives.

In that case, the message is completely correct - there is another build already in progress.

Having several developers working on a single machine isn't supported, therefore if you don't want to constantly fight with unsupported features, please set up your infrastructure correctly. Each developer need his or her own development environment (either in Azure or on a local VM).

Sorry to dig into the old post. But I just run into this problem today for the first time. I've been developping with D365 for a year.

I wonder if this applies to the same machine but different VM? We have one powerful server and setting up 3 different VMs and 3 different severs working off this machine but on the three different VMs. This is not recommended? Is there any document saying this set up is not recommended?

    Thanks

If you mean that you have three dev VMs at a single physical machine, then it's all right.

Hello Martin, we are facing the same issue of build because multiple developers are working on one VM. We are planning to make multiple developer VM's but how to merge the changes of all the developers. Need your assistance.

The scenario is one developer develops form and another develops report on same model. how to merge the form and report in both VM's.

You should not have multiple developers on same VM, it doesn't work like you have noticed.

The developers can get all the code to their new VMs by simply getting latest from the source control. If you are not yet using source control (VSTS) you should start immediately.
