Hi , in UCI when user opens one of the sub area I would like the navigation pane to automatically minimize. Please advise if there is any way to achieve this behavior.

What do you mean by 'one of the sub areas'? Maybe you could provide a screen dump.
In UCI the navigation pane is only used for Advanced Settings. It minimizes by default.
If a users minimizes the site map, the next time the user logs in, the site map will be minimized automatically.

If you looking for minimizing navigation menu which can be manually hide by clicking on highlighted button.
I am afraid this is not possible using any custom code. But please keep this thread open for other community member to add their thoughts.

Yes this is not possible to hide with any other code apart from clicking on the Ellipsis button as highlighted in Bipin's screenshot
